PUBLIC PROFILE

Arthur Boucaut Jones

Local Resident

Murraylands · SA

Capt. Bouc, teacher, River Master

I am a retired school principal and teacher/trainer/consultant on school camping and youth adventure education. I am very concerned about the current dropout rate of high school students, currently 24%.
As a contribution to helping dropout teens to stay in education during their transition years 15-18, I am working on creating a fleet of Houseboat style School ships working as "Cocoons' to reset the thinking of these dropout teens at risk.

Avoca trust

Aerie College and the associated DGR Trust Avoca trust plans to establish a fleet of school ships working the Murray to hold Teens aged 15-18 at risk of education dropout. The SA Law dictates that these young people are required to continue their education. Parents are at risk of a fine if their children drop out of school.

Distinguished and Famous people from The Victorian Alps

Victoria's alpine resorts have been training grounds and competition venues for athletes who represented Australia internationally. Some grew up in mountain communities; others arrived at snow sports through a different discipline.

⛷️ Malcolm Milne

Malcolm Milne learnt to ski at Falls Creek after growing up at Myrtleford. He competed at the 1968 and 1972 Winter Olympics and became the first Australian to win a World Cup downhill race. A world championship bronze further established his place in Australian winter sport. His achievements grew from regular trips into the Victorian snowfields, before the racing circuit took him to the much larger mountains of Europe.

⛷️ Britt Cox

Britt Cox grew up in Mount Beauty and Falls Creek, with moguls becoming the focus of an international skiing career. Her Olympic appearances began at Vancouver in 2010 and continued through Beijing in 2022. She won the women's world moguls championship in 2017 and World Cup crystal globes in the same season. For Cox, the Victorian Alps were a childhood environment as well as a place to train for one of skiing's most unforgiving events.

⛷️ Alisa Camplin

Alisa Camplin's Victorian alpine connection includes World Cup aerials competition at Mount Buller. Her route into skiing began with gymnastics and a Melbourne trampoline demonstration in 1994, rather than a childhood spent on snow. She won Olympic aerials gold at Salt Lake City in 2002 and bronze at Torino in 2006, overcoming serious injuries along the way. The career required a distinctive combination of airborne precision and persistence, with the Victorian snowfields among its competition settings.
